As an independent journalist, photographer, and artist, I pour my energy into finding and sharing the stories of lesbian & queer lives and spaces across Europe.

Right now, my work has an especially urgent focus.

This June, I need to get to Hungary. I plan to walk side-by-side with Hungarian queers at their Pride events. This spring, their government banned Pride in Hungary, claiming – outrageously – that LGBTQ+ people are 'bad examples for youth.' To give you a firsthand sense of the situation, I’ve reached out to queers and lesbians in Hungary and gathered their personal reactions to this ban. You can read their stories here: THE BIG FRIGHT IN HUNGARY: 5 Queer Monologues on Being Scapegoated

Being there in June isn't just about showing up. It's about capturing their courage and hope, making sure their voices are heard loud and clear beyond Hungary's borders, and frankly, defending our basic right to exist and be seen.

To make this trip, and my ongoing documentary work, possible, I rely on your support.

Your contribution will directly help me:

  • Share firsthand reports, photos, and stories from places where queer rights are under direct attack.

  • Show real, tangible solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities on the ground.

  • Push back against harmful lies by sharing the truth of their experiences.

  • Shine a light on why it's so important for queer people to be visible and gather, everywhere.

This trip to Hungary is a crucial piece of my larger commitment: making sure queer stories, especially when things are this tough, get told honestly and powerfully. Your support helps sustain this independent journalism and art.

I'd be so grateful for any donation you can offer to help me undertake this work. Thank you so much for considering.

Walk in peace,
Gry Ellebjerg
